Hello!

My name is Mya Ison* (she/hers). I am an actor/playwright based in Ridgewood, Queens! My artistic work centers on uplifting and embracing Black women/femmes through theatrical storytelling. I’m passionate about reimagining the historical archive that BIPOC voices have been systematically removed from.

Currently a First-Year MFA Playwriting Candidate at Hunter College! Also a BU School of Theatre alum.

When I’m not acting or writing plays, I direct middle school theatre (currently working on the prolific Annie Jr.). I also enjoy singing and playing guitar (badly), going to museums, and writing Letterboxd reviews.

As an actor, I’ve worked on plays at NYTW, Atlantic Theatre Co., Playwrights’ Realm, Huntington Theatre Co., Virginia Theatre Festival, Playmakers Rep. & more…

As a playwright, my plays have been workshopped at the cell, NYTW, The Flea, Liberation Theatre Company, and The Tank!

Thank you for visiting my website and feel free to explore the rest to learn more about my work!
